About Our President
Debra Parcheta is the founder and
president of Blue Marble Enterprises, Inc. (1994), a corporation that designs data collection processes and database
systems for its customers. Blue Marble evaluates each customer's unique data
needs to design and implement decision support systems, data warehouses, and
measurement systems. Debra has experience with numerous database management
system languages and applications and environments. Recent awards
include the 2003 and 2007 PRSA Silver Anvil Awards for a database that measures public
relations success and Denver Small Business of the Year Finalist, 2003.
Prior to starting her own company, Debra
worked at U S WEST as the assistant to the CIO to oversee program evaluations
for research and development projects. She managed the development of a
computerized training course to teach executives about telephone, cable,
satellite, and network technologies. She was also responsible for negotiating
intellectual property agreements for joint development work between the telecom
company and other large software companies such as Oracle. Debra gained
invaluable business experience early in her career while working for the May
Department Stores Company. While there, her interest in business data and its
uses caused her to be active in efforts to improve data collection in
merchandise information systems (MIS) and efforts to computerize ordering and
business planning systems on a nationwide basis.
Debra holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in Computer Science and Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics from
the University of Colorado. She offers her expertise as an Instructor at CU teaching
Database Systems Concepts and Senior Design Projects for senior engineering
students. She is also a professional member of the Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM), CU's Industrial Advisory Board, the National Association for
Female Executives (NAFE), Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Colorado Bioscience Association (CBSA) and the Colorado Software Industry Association (CSIA). Debra enjoys volunteering with local orchestras and the state and local chapters of the American Association for University Women (AAUW). She also serves as a Director on the board of the Community College of Aurora Foundation. Debra's hobbies include enjoying
her children (Carolyn and Scott), playing the cello, motorcycling, hiking and skydiving. |
